What's Kicking Chicken?

Edit that out please!

April 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We’ve been taking a look at the heart here lately and we’re talking about the inner most part of who we are, not the physical organ.

One of the verses that speaks so much about the heart is Proverbs 4:23 where it says, “Above all else, guard your heart for it is the wellspring of life.”

What I’ve realized in my life is there is this tendency for my to start controlling or editing my behavior instead of actually guarding my heart.  There is a difference.  Many people think its more about behavior but what Jesus taught was about change.  He wants to change us from the inside out and give us a new heart.  He wants to show us how to to expose the things that are in our heart to the light of his truth.

Dealing with heart issues is not just about editing our behavior, it’s about exposing the things that are going on and bringing them out into the light of God’s truth.

What’s love got to do with it?

April 22, 2008 · 3 Comments

Every time you open a magazine or turn on the television you find some company trying to help you find love. These companies arrange everything from drinks and dinner to the whole first date.

What many people are finding out is that in some instances these end up being nothing more than scams. Single men and women are paying big money only to find that they have been set up and ultimately no one shows up.

The question that I have is simply this……Is it really about love or is it more about companionship? Are people really looking for love or just someone to hang out with?  And if you really want to ask the tough question, “is it more a thing about sex?”

What do you think?

Sunday Rewind…..

April 21, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Sunday went great, so here are a few of my thoughts as I look back:

  • I was worn out before I even got up to speak on Sunday….sure am glad that God is always in control.
  • once again our volunteers (we would like for more of you to step up) did a fantastic job. Everything seemed to go so smooth.
  • the food in the green room was OUTSTANDING! Thanks to those of you who made that happen.
  • first service crowd was up…..
  • beautiful weather.
  • beautiful babies at our baby dedication. Do you know how many were there? (a bunch)
  • music was great.
  • message was not so great (jk).
  • good to see some of our friends who have moved away, the Freels! They are a big part of Crossroads!
  • have I ever told you that “I love what I do?”
  • we need your help with the buying of the 100 bicycles…bring your $25 next week.  Put a separate check in the offering bucket and mark on it “bicycle.”

Ok, so now I am tired. Yesterday was a completely exhausting day…..but I wouldn’t have it any other way!!!

Have a great week!

I’m struggling with….

April 20, 2008 · 3 Comments

Texting while driving….yes you read it right!

On Saturday I caught myself texting, eating a handful of fries with a 44 oz drink in my lap (between my…well you get the picture) and trying to drive and shift gears. Do they call that multi-tasking?

Today is going to be another great day at Crossroads.

I’m looking forward to seeing you guys as we unpack a little on “purpose.”  Purpose is one of those words that you hear thrown around a lot in our world.  But today I’m gonna unpack a little of what I believe will give you some real direction on finding your purpose.

Looking forward to seeing you this morning!

What a week!

April 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This has been a really wild week.

Last Sunday in what seemed like an instant my mother went from being fine to really sick. On Thursday I finally took her to the hospital and even as we speak we don’t know what’s wrong. She hasn’t been able to eat anything since last Sunday and is throwing up constantly. The doctors have done all sorts of tests and come up with nothing as of today. (keep her in your prayers)

I guess it just reminds me of how fast your life can change. Isn’t it true that most of us think that we are guaranteed tomorrow and nothing could be further from the truth. Your life can change while your reading this.

All you can do is trust and pray. Have a great weekend.

Useless Friday Info

April 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Here you go…..this should make your weekend!

Beaver teeth are so sharp that Native Americans once used them as knife blades.
An albatross can sleep while it flies. It apparently dozes
while cruising at 25 mph.

To remove grease from inside an oven, put a small pan of ammonia in the oven over night with the door closed. In the morning, remove the pan and the inside grease should wipe off easily.

Just what did I sign up for?

April 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I have to admit that over the last couple of years I often wonder just what did I sign up for when I agreed to put into action the vision that God had given us for Crossroads.

I have to admit that there are days that go by and I just wonder what in the heck have I gotten myself into?  When I give it to much thought it can really drag me down.

But then I am reminded that I signed up for something that was, is and will be so much bigger than me anyway.  It’s so much bigger than all of us and the scripture says, “that he can do more than we can ever ask or think!”  When I remember that then I feel fine.

What have you signed up for to help carry out what God wants to do at Crossroads?

He’s waiting…….

Why is the “heart” so important?

April 17, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We’ve been taking some time on the blog and talking about the heart.  We’re not talking about the organ but about the innermost part of who you really are.

A few posts back we said that we can know what’s going on in a person’s heart by listening to what’s coming out of their mouth and what we’ve found out is that it’s true.  Just listen…….

But why is it so important….the heart that is?

Proverbs says it best in Chapter 4 verse 23, “Above all else, guard your heart for it is the wellspring of life.”

The reason the condition of your heart is so important is because it’s from there that you do everything.  You love, lead, parent, conduct relationships, manage money all out of your heart.  It’s so important and that’s why Solomon says to guard it.  Guard what goes in and what comes out, because this is where all of life comes from.

Stay tuned……more coming!
